On November 9, 2024 I had the pleasure of taking the stage again to share my insight on video production, entrepreneurship and this time, more specifically... story telling. I was able to share my own story and the story of one of my friends, Rebekah Doyle, to show how to create a compelling story with video. I'll let her tell you herself in the video below!
Firstly, I want to give a huge thank you to Karisma Page, founder of Erin Resilience LLC, a business networking and coaching company that helps stuck or start up businesses achieve their goals. Check out her website and events if you need help getting your business and mindset to the next level.
Back in East Stroudsburg, PA at the Pocono Cinema, the 2024 Business Networking Conference was underway. Karisma hired my company to capture the event and to produce a "Welcome video" to kick off the event. The event included a multitude of talented and experienced speakers, networking exercises, red carpet interviews, a DJ and a few dance sessions. Karisma definitely makes sure there is plenty of energy at her events. The speakers covers every topic from finances to sharing their own business journey and struggles they overcame. Much like the last event I spoke at, I was the final speaker of the event.
This event I was asked to speak about story telling. In my experience with video production and producing video content for businesses and brands, I have learned that creating a compelling story can be the difference between a "cool" video and an effective video. This also is true in regard to creating content for your business. When you're able to connect with viewers on a deeper level, that builds trust in you, your brand, your service and your business. This can have a huge impact on the success of your business and its what my company tries to do for our clients and for our own success.
Here are the key points I covered in the talk:
Be Honest: Don't be a liar. Be exactly who you are. If you are just starting your business, if you're already very experienced and successful, either way, be honest.
Be Vulnerable: This can be a hard one and very scary to be vulnerable. But a lot of us have a story that is personal to us, but resonates with others who may hear it. Don't be afraid to tell your story.
Be Yourself: This goes hand in hand with #1. Be yourself. The example I used was how small businesses want to be seen as larger, more successful businesses and large corporations try to resonate on the individual level. Just be yourself and be honest!
Identify what resonates: Think about your content from a client perspective. What about you and your story resonates with potential clients or followers?
Identify your avatar: A little out of sequence, but know your audience. Your avatar is your ideal client. The grand slam client. You may reach people outside this avatar but really hone in on whats ideal and what can bring you a successful business opportunity.
Sell yourself, Not your product: People don't want to be sold to. We all skip the ads on youtube, so don't turn content into endless sales pitches. Sell yourself. Sell your story. Give value and you will get it in return.
Hopefully this can help kickstart your business content journey and help you craft better story telling with it. If you have any questions or want to partner with me and my company to help craft your story, hit the button below! I can't wait to hear your story!
